There's not much in this world I love more than music. Flip on whatever mood you're feeling, and your vibe can flow (or change) instantly. Today is Day-idk of this Coronavirus Quarantine, and I've gotta say I'm in a funk. I'm sure we all are. But I've decided #QuarantineAndChill is my new lifestyle-tag, and NPR is going to help me get there. If you've never heard of Tiny Desk, today is your lucky day. It's a simple show, really. There's a cluttered room, tiny as a closet, filled with books and knick knacks, with just enough space to set up a live band. Artists from all over the world (famous to little-known) come to share their music, stories, and talent. There's no host talking; Just the music, and it's recorded live for both ears and eyes. So, in the spirit of positive change amidst this shit-show of negativity, I'm going to flip on my huge tv, navigate to the YouTube Channel, select NPR Music, and keep it there until I feel better. 😍 ~Abbie Think they couldn't possibly have something for you? Check them out and I'll prove you wrong: NPR Music Youtube Channel I just know you're going to love it! 💗 Here's a sample of some super soothing Dave Matthews music 🌺 And for those HB Cucumbers reading, we can remember that extremely non-socially-distancing party bus ride we took to his concert!

My brain exploded into a hundred pieces; one checking the news, another worried about finances, a small fraction trying to homeschool, another working on this website just to avoid everything else. I called a family meeting where my teen continuously rolled his eyes, my seven-year-old cried, and my twelve-year-old could barely pull himself away from his video games. After a one-sided discussion where I nagged about schedules and helping out, I grabbed the vodka and poured-- liberally. That's how my day went. And so many others are having the same day. A friend on Facebook admitted she locked herself in the bathroom to cry so her kid wouldn't see. Another friend asked where she could find food because the grocery shelves were empty. My mother told me to go get some cash because the stock market shut down. Then there was a discussion online about how a neighboring town couldn't do remote learning because so many families didn't have access to computers or internet. Wow. These are unprecedented times, folks. Unprecedented. But that's just the thing. These times breed fear and anxiety, but they can also grow love and connection. Outside of the bad, I took a walk with some neighbors. We spread out across the street, 6 feet apart, and decided to do it again the next day, and every afternoon after that. Another neighbor talked about finding an abandoned lot so we could grow vegetables. And though my social media feed was inundated with negative, it was also filled with free events and activities. I'm particularly excited about this one----> Dropkick Murphys is putting on a live concert tomorrow for Saint Patty's Day, and my plan is to turn them on, to turn them loud, and to dance around my kitchen like the world isn't changing forever before my eyes. And though my usual M-O is a cool, New England reserve, I think I'll make "Wild Abandon" my secret code word for the day. If you don't know who Dropkick Murphys is, check them out here. Do your kids love sharks? Mine do. Although I'll never forget the moment one of my children turned around at the Boston Aquarium to see a huge, grey, shape in the water. He jumped from fear then cried hysterically. As he was only about two at the time, he barely knew what a shark was, but he knew enough to feel overwhelmed. I imagine every person is different. Some may feel joy at the chance of encountering a shark. Others may be petrified. Either way, join the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Live on Facebook every day this week (3/16-3/20) at 10am ET for Shark story followed by a Question & Answer session. Find a link to their Facebook Page below. I am so excited about the Facebook Live Art Events a Studio in Ohio will be putting on daily during the Coronavirus quarantine. Full disclosure, the artist mentioned she's never done this kind of thing before and wasn't expecting her idea to go "viral", but I'm okay with that. The idea is that they will post a weekly Supply List so you can order your supplies from Amazon. Then, each day at 1pm, they will have a Live Art Tutorial you and your children can follow - (the Live events will be recorded so you can follow along when it's convenient for you). I am in love with this idea, and will be spending some time going through my art supplies and shopping on Amazon later today 😉 Whether my art-skittish kids will go along with this idea is another story.
